ATLAS Project Objectives<\/h3>\n

ATLAS<\/strong> aims to position the HiLASE Centre at the forefront of laser technology for space applications. ATLAS<\/strong> is positioned at the intersection of laser science<\/strong> and space systems engineering<\/strong>. Led by ERA Chair Professor Massimiliano Vasile<\/strong>, the project aims to establish a world-class research programme<\/strong> at the HiLASE Centre<\/strong>, cultivating new capabilities in Central Europe<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Prof. Massimiliano Vasile<\/strong> is a Professor of Space Systems Engineering<\/strong> and Director of the Aerospace Centre<\/strong> at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow<\/strong>. With over 25 years of experience in space systems<\/strong>, he is a leading expert in planetary defence, space safety, and sustainable space environment management<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Prof. Vasile has pioneered the use of spaceborne lasers<\/strong> for planetary protection and has led several high-impact European initiatives, including three Marie Sk\u0142odowska-Curie European Training Networks<\/strong> under FP7 and Horizon 2020. He has successfully coordinated 20 projects<\/strong> funded by major organizations such as the European Space Agency<\/strong>, UK Space Agency<\/strong>, and DSTL<\/strong>, securing more than \u20ac17 million<\/strong> in research funding.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

A Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society<\/strong>, Associate Fellow of AIAA<\/strong>, and Senior Member of IEEE<\/strong>, Prof. Vasile has authored over 120 journal papers and 270 conference papers<\/strong>. His research impact places him among the top 2% of scientists worldwide<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
