The laser system for shaping the laser beam mode (7) in an unstable laser resonator comprises an active medium (3) of an excitation region (4), where the gain distribution is generated by the spatial intensity profile of the optical excitation beam (7). The transverse dimension of the beam (7) is smaller than the corresponding dimension of the active laser medium (3).
