The HiLASE Centre team (Martin Duda, Luk\u00e1\u0161 Ro\u0161kot, Martin Smr\u017e and Ond\u0159ej Nov\u00e1k) together with the researchers from Max Born Institute for Nonlinear Optics and Short Pulse Spectroscopy<\/a> have recently published a paper on\u00a010-\u00b5J few-cycle 12-\u00b5m source based on difference-frequency generation driven by a 1-kHz mid-wave infrared OPCPA <\/em>in the Optics Letters<\/a> journal. In the paper, the authors report on high-energy, few-cycle pulse generation in the long-wave infrared spectral region via difference-frequency generation (DFG) in GaSe and AgGaSe2<\/sub>\u00a0nonlinear crystals. The DFG is driven by the signal at 3.5\u2009\u00b5m and idler at 5\u2009\u00b5m of a high-power mid-wave infrared optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA) system operating at a 1-kHz repetition rate. The DFG pulses contain up to 17\u2009\u00b5J of energy and cover a spectrum from 8.5\u2009\u00b5m to 14.5\u2009\u00b5m. They are generated with a conversion efficiency of 2.1\u2009%.
