ABSTRACT<\/strong>
\nIn the present work, the effects of laser shock peening on the mechanical properties of metal additive manufacturing parts made of SS 304L, SS 316L, AlMg10Si, and Ti6Al4V were discussed. The samples were evaluated for residual stress, microstructure, computed tomography scanning, and\/or fatigue life testing. All the measurements\/testings were carried out on the As-Built and LSP treated samples and the results were compared.<\/p>\n

ABSTRACT<\/strong>
\nThis paper shows the effects of Laser Shock Peening (LSP), an alternative to Shot Peening, on marine aluminium alloys. LSP generated compressive residual stresses which varied depending on the peening strategy and method of confinement. Electrochemical tests indicated a region of increased passivity samples without protective coating as well as significantly reduced intergranular corrosion rate. 3-point bend tests showed significant improvement in fatigue strength. Slow strain rate testing showed strong work hardening of treated specimens although the influence on IGSCC was not clearly indicated.<\/p>\n
