Petr Hauschwitz, Ph.D. has been honoured with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avcr.cz\/en\/academic-public\/support-of-research\/otto-wichterle-award\/\">Otto Wichterle Award<\/a> for outstanding young scientists of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. This is a prestigious prize for promising scientists under 35 years of age who have made remarkable achievements in their fields. Petr received the award from the hands of the President of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.avcr.cz\">CAS<\/a> Eva Za\u017e\u00edmalov\u00e1 at the Lanova Villa in Prague on Wednesday 21 June 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hilase.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2-180.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Such an award is a great honour for me. I am grateful for the recognition of my work and it is a great encouragement and motivation for the future, which will surely bring even more interesting laser applications,&#8221;<\/em> says Petr Hauschwitz, who focuses on the fabrication of precision periodic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hilase.cz\/en\/produkty\/laser-micromachining-lmm\/\">micro- and nanostructures <\/a>at the HiLASE Centre (FZU). This field, which has been in great demand in recent years, has enormous potential for application in many spheres of human activity. Peter specializes in using these structures to reduce friction, modify surface properties and create antibacterial surfaces. Together with his team, Peter Hauschwitz holds two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hilase.cz\/en\/40-401-beams-in-a-laser-multi-beam-nanostructuring-is-a-new-record\/\">world records<\/a> for productivity and number of beams in laser nanostructuring. In 2021, Forbes magazine ranked him among the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hilase.cz\/en\/30-pod-30-zebricek-casopisu-forbes-predstavuje-petra-hauschwitze\/\">&#8220;30 under 30&#8221;<\/a> talent pool.<\/p>\n<p>Other scientists of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fzu.cz\/en\/home\">Institute of Physics of the CAS<\/a> also received the Otto Wichterle Award: Filip K\u0159\u00ed\u017eek, Ph.D. for his work on the development of new spintronic materials, Tom\u00e1\u0161 Neuman, Ph.D. for his contribution to the understanding of the interaction of light with matter, Andrea \u0160kol\u00e1kov\u00e1, Ph.D. for her research on high-entropy alloys, and Gwladys Steciuk, Ph.D. for her analysis of specific structures of microcrystalline minerals. They are thus among the five hundred laureates who have received the prize since 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The Prize also commemorates the outstanding Czech chemist Otto Wichterle, the inventor of gel contact lenses, who became president of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in 1990.
