On Monday the 10th of June 2024, the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering<\/a> of CTU in Prague hosted a Day with lasers and photonics<\/a><\/strong> organised by the Department of Laser Physics and Photonics \u2013 a unique event full of talks, discussions and excursions for high school and undergraduate students. The aim was to introduce the work of laser scientists to a new generation and get them excited about studying and working in this field.<\/p>\n

The programme included, among other things, talks by Tom\u00e1\u0161 Mocek<\/strong> (head of HiLASE Centre) on the topic of The story of HiLASE<\/em> and by Petr Hauschwitz<\/strong> (team leader of Laser Micromachining<\/a>) titled Lasers mimic nature<\/em>. During the panel discussion, students had the opportunity to ask them questions as well. Further speakers at the event were Helena Jel\u00ednkov\u00e1 (FJFI) with her presentation Solid State Lasers at FJFI and their real applications<\/em>, Pavel Bakule (ELI Beamlines) with ELI Beamlines – on the edge of the possible<\/em>, Filip K\u0159\u00ed\u017eek (FZU) on What to build a quantum computer from<\/em> and Jana J\u00e1gersk\u00e1, who presented her scientific work abroad in her lecture Through integrated photonics to Tromso, Norway<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Martin Divok\u00fd<\/strong> (team leader of High energy slab lasers) was also in attendance, exciting students for the study of lasers at the HiLASE Centre booth during the lunch break, and accompanied the students on an excursion of the laser centre.<\/p>\n

Within it, prospective laser scientists found out more about the Centre and its focus. Through the window, they took a look inside the laser laboratories with a commentary by Martin Divok\u00fd. Along with Petr Hauschwitz<\/strong> (LMM) and Jan \u0160maus<\/strong> (LSP<\/a> \u2013 Laser Shock Peening), they visited our experimental halls.<\/p>\n

Thank you to CTU that we could be a part of this unique event and pass our excitement for science onto a new generation of future
