A new paper created in collaboration between HiLASE Centre<\/strong> (Institute of Physics of CAS<\/a>) and the Central Laser Facility<\/a><\/strong> (STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory) presents the results of frequency tripling experiments on the BIVOJ laser system<\/a>.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

BIVOJ, a cryogenically gas-cooled multi-slab ytterbium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet laser system, was developed by the two institutions and is currently operated at the HiLASE facility. The researchers have successfully demonstrated third-harmonic generation (THG) at an unprecedented energy level of 50 J per pulse at a repetition rate of 10 times per second.<\/p>\n

This advance in generation of high-energy ultraviolet laser pulses could have an impact in multiple industries. In the semiconductor industry, they are crucial for processes such as silicon annealing. They could also play a key role in fusion energy experiments or open up new horizons for laser micromachining.<\/p>\n
