This research demonstrates the way of engineering of the band structure of silicon by deposition inside hollow optical fibres followed by laser crystallization. A reduction of the bandgap down to 0.59 eV is demonstrated, enabling detection of light at telecommunications wavelengths up to 2,100 nm.<\/p>\n
