About the Position<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

HiLASE Centre is seeking a<\/span>\u00a0Junior Researcher<\/span><\/b> to join our interdisciplinary team within the <\/span>ATLAS (Advanced Technologies for Laser Applications in Space)<\/span><\/b> research project. The successful candidate will contribute to pioneering research in <\/span>laser-matter interaction<\/span><\/b>, with an emphasis on laser ablation, propulsion, mining and related high-power laser applications and experiments.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of photonics research in a supportive and innovative environment, under the guidance of leading scientists in the field.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What You Will Do<\/span><\/b>:<\/span><\/h3>\n

As a Junior Researcher, your key responsibilities will include:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Developing and contributing to research objectives, both independently and as part of the broader team.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Planning and managing your own workload and research activities in alignment with the objectives of the ATLAS project.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Conducting high-quality individual and collaborative research in laser-matter interaction, including method development.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Disseminating research outcomes via peer-reviewed publications and presentations at scientific conferences.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Building and maintaining professional networks to identify funding opportunities and share research insights.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Supporting departmental teaching efforts through integration of research findings and supervising student projects.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Participating in knowledge exchange initiatives, especially with industry and policy stakeholders.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Contributing to administrative duties and engaging in ongoing professional development.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    We Are Looking for Someone with the following skills and competencies:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

    Essential Qualifications and Experience:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    • A Master\u2019s degree or PhD (or equivalent professional experience) in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Ability to conduct independent research, prepare proposals, and effectively plan and organise tasks.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Strong teamwork capabilities, motivation, openness to learn new things, and willingness to collaborate across disciplines are key.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Motivation and interest in advanced laser space applications.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Demonstrated interest or initial experience in at least one of the following areas is preferred:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      • Laser-matter interaction<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Laser ablation<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Laser mining<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Laser propulsion<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      • High power\/high intensity lasers<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Desirable Qualifications and Experience:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

        • General knowledge of laser systems and space safety.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Knowledge of ECSS standards<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Basic knowledge of mechanics<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Basic knowledge of electronics<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
