Distributed pulse amplification and distributed charge accelerators are driving the first major advances in clinical radiotherapy in 70 years and X-ray radiography in 130 years. Traditional Roentgen sources emit broad spectra from relatively large areas, while modern therapy relies on MeV x-rays or ~100 MeV protons for deep tumors, with treatments lasting minutes.
This seminar presents Distributed Charge Accelerator and Distributed Pulse Amplifier technologies that enhance electron beam and X-ray performance in a Distributed Charge Compton Source (DCCS). The system delivers precision X-ray beams with up to 100× higher resolution than current clinical standards, and very high energy electron (VHEE) beams capable of treating tumors anywhere in the body within fractions of a second.
At its core, the DCCS uses laser pulse synthesis with an X-band RF system to generate trains of sub-picosecond pulses, producing high-quality electron bunches. A clinical prototype in Irvine, California has demonstrated record X-ray flux and resolution above 100 keV, rapid energy tuning, element-selective imaging, and VHEE dose rates exceeding 100,000,000 Gy/s—sufficient for FLASH radiotherapy effects.
