Laser Components wins HiLASE LIDT Challenge 2026

The HiLASE Centre is pleased to announce Laser Components as the winner of LIDT Challenge 2026. The company's high-reflectivity (HR) coated mirror achieved the highest laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT) of 17.5 J/cm², demonstrating outstanding resistance to high-energy laser radiation.

Organised by the HiLASE Centre, LIDT Challenge 2026 brought together manufacturers and suppliers of advanced optical components to evaluate their resistance to laser-induced damage under demanding testing conditions.

And the Winner Is... Laser Components!

The winning HR-coated mirror achieved an LIDT value of 17.5 J/cm² under the following testing conditions:

  • Wavelength: 1030 nm
  • Pulse duration: 10 ns
  • Angle of incidence: 45°
  • Polarization: p-polarized
  • Beam profile: square, flat-top
  • Spot size: 5 × 5 mm
  • Number of pulses: 6,000
  • Environment: vacuum

All participating samples were tested at the HiLASE Centre using its advanced laser infrastructure and expertise in laser-induced damage threshold measurements.

Advancing Optical Technologies Through LIDT Testing

LIDT Challenge provides manufacturers with valuable insights into the performance and durability of optical coatings exposed to high-intensity laser radiation.

The results contribute to the development of reliable optical components for high-power laser systems and other demanding technological applications.

Award Ceremony at Laser World of Photonics 2027

While the LIDT Challenge 2026 results are being announced online, the winner will receive the unique LIDT Challenge trophy - the traditional "laser beam vase" - in person at the HiLASE booth during Laser World of Photonics 2027, taking place on June 22-25, 2027, at Messe München in Munich, Germany.

Congratulations to Laser Components on winning LIDT Challenge 2026!

We sincerely thank all participating companies for taking part in this year's challenge and contributing to the advancement of laser technologies and optical component development.
