Compact optical hyperspectral camera FREYA for CubeSat missions

3/1/2023 – 12/31/2026

The HiLASE Center is one of the partners in a project focused on developing advanced optical systems for use in the stratosphere and space. The project, known as FREYA Hyperspec, launched in March 2023.

Compact optical hyperspectral camera FREYA for CubeSat missions

This project will entail the development of a unique compact wide-spectrum camera, with vast application potential. The camera will be able to simultaneously image a large number of narrow spectral emission bands produced by the passage of interplanetary matter, space debris, or other materials through the atmosphere. The camera is being developed for use in space environments, i.e. orbits above 300 km, and therefore must meet the demanding requirements of inhospitable environments. The development of the camera is linked to several planned CubeSat missions such as SLAVIA, FACIS, and S-CUBE.

The project is financed by the National Centre of Competence for Aerospace (NCK NaCCAS).
Project number: T002000009/07.

NaCCAS was established to concentrate and efficiently use the R&D capabilities of the participating cutting-edge research organisations and innovative companies operating in the progressive high-tech aerospace sector. It is co-financed with state support from the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic under the National Centres of Competence programme.

Other partners of the project are the J. Heyrovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry of the CAS, v.v.i. (principal investigator), evolving systems consulting s.r.o. and the Czech Aerospace Research Centre.

Subproject numbers: T002000009/07 and T002000009/11.
