Optoman Wins HiLASE LIDT Challenge 2025

The HiLASE Centre is proud to announce the winner of the LIDT Challenge 2025, revealed during a public ceremony at the Laser World of Photonics in Munich.

Congratulations to Optoman, whose antireflective-coated laser window achieved the highest Laser-Induced Damage Threshold (LIDT) value among all submitted components – an impressive 0.5 J/cm².

All samples were tested in the HiLASE Centre’s ISO 9001-certified LIDT laboratory, using the femtosecond PERLA laser system. The Challenge attracted submissions from companies across Europe and beyond, each aiming to demonstrate the resilience and quality of their optical components under extreme laser stress conditions.

LIDT Optoman

“It was my pleasure to test such top-notch optical pieces – and a real challenge at the same time,” said Jan Vanda, Team Leader for LIDT Testing at HiLASE. “Participants provided us with truly durable optics. The high values obtained in this year’s Challenge reflect just how far laser technology has come. It shows that the push for higher power and energy levels is not only alive but actively pursued by the industry.”

A Unique Prize – The HiLASE Vase

To celebrate their achievement, Optoman also received the HiLASE Vase, a one-of-a-kind art piece designed by Czech glass artist Dominika Petrtýlová. Inspired by the colour gradient of the HiLASE Centre and the elegance of laser beams, the Vase is more than a trophy – it’s a symbol of precision, collaboration, and innovation in the field of laser optics.

What is the LIDT Challenge?

The Laser-Induced Damage Threshold (LIDT) Challenge is an annual testing campaign organized by the HiLASE Centre to benchmark the performance of optical components under high-energy laser exposure. Each year, leading manufacturers submit their optics to undergo rigorous and anonymised testing in real-world conditions, allowing objective comparison and recognition for excellence in laser durability.

Thank You for Joining Us

The winner was announced at our booth during Laser World of Photonics 2025, co-hosted with the Czech Optical Cluster, followed by the Czech Booth Party – a celebration of innovation, partnership, and Czech photonics excellence.

We extend our thanks to all participants for pushing the limits of optical durability and contributing to the progress of high-power laser applications.
