On September 9, 2025, the HiLASE Laser Training Centre (LTC) hosted the very first edition of the course Laser Mechanics: The Beginning of the Journey. Under the guidance of our expert lecturer and designer, Ing. Karolina Macúchová, Ph.D., participants delved into the fundamentals of designing and constructing laser systems and their mechanical components.
During the course, they gained practical knowledge and skills in the following areas:
- Precision mechanics and positioning – design principles and work with opto-mechanical elements,
- Basics of vacuum technology – material selection and design of vacuum-compatible components,
- Cooling and thermal management – methods for solving overheating and parasitic reflections,
- Noise suppression – ways to improve the stability and reliability of laser systems.
A great added value of the course was the opportunity to consult participants’ own design projects, which allowed them to apply newly acquired knowledge directly to their work.
The first run of the course Laser Mechanics: The Beginning of the Journey went very well. Participants showed genuine interest in the practical aspects of laser system design and provided valuable feedback. Based on their suggestions, we plan to include hands-on tasks in future sessions to help them apply the newly acquired knowledge directly in practice.

Participants especially appreciated the practical focus of the training and the professional leadership of the lecturer. Each graduate received a certificate confirming successful completion.
“I liked the training. It was clear that the lecturer understood the subject, was very experienced, and willing to share a large amount of information. The pace of the lecture was also very good,” said a participant from Streicher (Plzeň) right after the training.
At the end of the course, participants also had the opportunity to visit the experimental hall dedicated to Laser Shock Peening, where this laser technology was presented by Jan Šmaus, LSP specialist.
The next editions of the course Laser Mechanics: The Beginning of the Journey will take place on the following dates:
