About the Position
HiLASE Centre is seeking a visionary and experienced Senior Researcher to lead a research team within the prestigious ATLAS project (Advanced Technologies for Laser Applications in Space). This role focuses on Space Systems, with strong emphasis on applications of laser systems in space.
As a key member of our leadership team, you will drive scientific progress, secure funding, and lead the design and development of advanced laser-based systems with real-world applications in space technologies.
What You Will Do
As a Senior Researcher, your key responsibilities will include:
- Achieving the research objectives of the ATLAS project.
- Scouting for project opportunities, project proposals preparation and consortia projects preparation and management.
- Managing the research activities of both yourself and your team, ensuring respective project’s goals and milestones.
- Designing and implementing methods for space systems engineering, integration, and mission analysis.
- Identifying and securing new research funding opportunities and contributing to grant applications.
- Publishing high-quality research results and presenting at international conferences.
- Contributing to departmental teaching and supervising postgraduate students.
- Participating in knowledge exchange and industrial cooperation initiatives.
- Engaging in internal management and continuous professional development activities.
We Are Looking for Someone with the following skills and competencies
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- PhD degree or 7+ years of equivalent work experience in physics, engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Image and signal processing
- Space systems engineering
- Space thermal management
Leadership and Research Capabilities:
- Proven ability to lead research projects and guide junior team members.
- Strong planning and project management skills, including balancing individual and team priorities.
- Capacity to conduct independent research and contribute to long-term strategic goals.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
Desirable:
- General knowledge of laser systems operation and safety
- Experience with space projects realization
- Knowledge of image processing and signal processing principles
- Knowledge of free-space optical communications principles and protocols
- Experience with inter-satellite or deep-space communications
- Experience with international project preparation, particularly ESA and Horizon calls
