Call for Open Access to the HiLASE Centre extended until 31 May 2023

We have good news for all applicants for Open Access to our research infrastructure. The deadline for applications has been extended to 31 May 2023! Feel free to submit your application here.

If you succeed, you will have the opportunity to use not only state-of-the-art laser systems and devices for characterization, but also a number of research stations, for example for:

  • laser shock peening (LSP),
  • laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT) or
  • laser micromachining with the PERLA® C laser or Pharos.

Last year, for example, researchers Ebrahim Asadi and Michael Fitzmayer from the University of Memphis used Open Access to our laboratories to investigate the interaction between laser shock peening (LSP) and additive manufacturing of titanium. By combining these methods, they aim to remove surface roughness and minimize the amount of defects near the surface to increase the fatigue life of the material. See what they have to say about their experience with the Open Access programme at the HiLASE Centre.
