In December 2016, Dr. Inam Mirza published in Scientific Reports (Nature Publishing Group) (IF = 5.228) the paper called: „Ultrashort pulse laser ablation of dielectrics: Thresholds, mechanisms, role of breakdown“. In this research, clear connections have been established between the thresholds and mechanisms of the damage and white-light generation upon femtosecond laser irradiation of wide-bandgap transparent materials. The experimental results demonstrate co-existence of several ablation mechanisms which can be separated in time, that is also supported by sophisticated numerical modeling.
